Hecate Asterick

Hecate Asterick creates intricately detailed paintings, dazzlingly complex and infused with a peculiarly eternal sensibility. They are visions of every time and of no time, suffused with a futuristic mediaevalism which is at once oddly familiar and wholly novel. The work is compact, intuitive, but it is more than that - it seethes with intent, with an esoteric language, with a meaning that defies categorisation. These pictures demand your close reading, your careful scrutiny, your careful interpretation. Like the illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages, Orthodox icons or perhaps even the Voynich Manuscript they are, somehow, not entirely of this world. Hecate Spent her early years in the world of the circus. A stiltwalker and long-distance unicyclist, she counts Hieronymus Bosch and Jan Svankmayer among her artistic influences.
